Déjà Vu: Maggie Hassan Dodges Questions on Refugees, Gitmo

In an interview with the Concord Monitor, Governor Hassan again refused to answer questions regarding Syrian refugees and Guantanamo detainees. Hassan has ducked repeated questions on the issue of U.S. policy toward refugees, and today refused to take a position on her presidential candidate's proposal to admit 65,000 Syrian refugees -- which she called "hypothetical." For months, Hassan has given vague statements on Guantanamo, and today she refused to say whether she supports closing the detention facility. Today's interview is the latest in a very long and troubling pattern of Hassan's refusal to take clear positions on critical national security issues.

Concord Monitor: Hassan "declined to say whether she agreed with Hillary Clinton's plan to let in 65,000 refugees from Syria, calling it a "hypothetical question' …"When asked if she ever wants to see Guantanamo closed, Hassan didn't directly answer, simply saying she would "always review proposals" that come to her."

Clearly, Hassan didn't take the Monitor's advice back in April, when they editorialized that her "talking points, vague party lines and memorized factoids won't, and shouldn't, cut it."
