Jack Martins, Republican candidate for Congress in NY-3, assailed President Obama and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's continued plans to close the Guantanamo Bay Military Detention Center and bring captured terrorists to New York and the rest of the country.
"Guantanamo literally houses the worst of the worst. President Obama and Nancy Pelosi's continued insistence on removing these dangerous terrorists, who would love nothing more than to kill innocent Americans, from a military base in Cuba and bringing them here to the United States is flawed and misguided. We should not and must not allow it," said Martins.
The House of Representatives recently passed legislation to prevent terror detainees from being transferred from Guantanamo to the US mainland and keep the Guantanamo facility open. House Republicans overwhelmingly supported the legislation, while nearly every one of the House Democrats opposed it.
Martins supports the legislation and urged his Democrat opponent, Tom Suozzi, to stand up to his own party and support it as well.
"Tom Suozzi should tell President Obama, Congresswoman Pelosi and the rest of their party's leadership to leave the terrorists in Guantanamo where they belong," Martins added.
As a State Senator, Martins repeatedly supported legislation to prevent state and local funds from being used to support the Obama administration's plan to bring enemy combatant terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to New York to stand trial in civilian courts instead of military tribunals.
"Moving terrorists to the United States is exactly the kind of actions we can expect if Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats take control of Congress," Martins concluded.
