81 Years Old and Stronger Than Ever

Press Release

This month, Social Security turns 81 years old.

It's clear that Social Security is one of the most successful government programs in our nation's history. It has dramatically reduced the rate of destitute poverty in old age, allowed millions of Americans to retire with dignity, and helped build the middle class as we know it -- and that's why we've got to do everything we can to protect Social Security.

At a time when nine out of ten seniors rely on Social Security to make ends meet, we must strengthen and expand Social Security, not cut it. It's in our hands to ensure that our seniors receive the care they've earned and can retire with peace and dignity.

To do that, we must stand strong against Republican attacks on Social Security, block every attempt to privatize it, and ensure everyone is paying their fair share into the system -- and that's what I'll do in Congress.
