Issue Position: Agricultural Issues

Issue Position

Like my twin Sam and my brother Miles, I have worked during school breaks -- haying, milking, packing butter, making sales calls -- in our Hooper family business, Vermont Creamery. Vermont Creamery currently employs 85 people making cheese and butter using the milk of a dozen goat dairies farms, and milk and cream from St. Albans Coop. The company began on our Brookfield family farm 33 years ago. To increase the milk supply for the growing business, three years ago Vermont Creamery began Ayers Brook Goat Dairy on Carol + Perry Hodgdon's farm on Route 12, just north of Randolph Village. Today, Miles Hooper manages the 1000 head goat farm, which ships its milk to Vermont Creamery. I am proud of our family's contribution to the Vermont economy in terms of providing good jobs and helping to sustain Vermont agricultural vitality.
