Today, Angie Craig, the DFL-endorsed candidate for Congress in Minnesota's 2nd District, released the following statement commending the Education Department's recent proposal to protect students and taxpayers against predatory practices by postsecondary institutions:

"Nobody understands the importance of education better than Minnesotans, and that's why I was encouraged to see the Education Department propose significant measures to protect students and taxpayers from bad actors," Craig said. "The promise of a good education has represented a fundamental key to unlocking the American Dream for decades -- when an institution takes advantage of an American's trust in that promise, they should be held accountable."

The Department of Education yesterday proposed regulations to further protect student borrowers and taxpayers against predatory practices by postsecondary institutions. The regulations clarify, simplify, and strengthen existing regulations that grant students loan forgiveness if they were defrauded or deceived by an institution. The proposed regulations would also hold financially risky institutions accountable for their behavior and ban schools' use of legal clauses to sidestep accountability.

Craig, the daughter of a public school and wife of an educator, has prioritized providing opportunities for education and workforce development in her community, her work at St Jude Medical, and her campaign for Congress.
