Education is an issue of upmost importance because it shapes the potential of our future generations. There is no single solution to Michigan's education problems. Although there are a lot of good ideas on how to proceed in the future there are several which are noteworthy:

Educators are tired of the state overhauling the curriculum every several years. Obviously, if something is not working change is needed; however, this does not make it necessary to start from the beginning.

An emphasis on vocational programs are needed. This is especially true in lower income areas. For Michigan students where four year college degrees may not be the desired option, learning a trade is an important step on the path to employability in tomorrow's economy.

It is time to push back and tell the federal government that education is a responsibility reserved for the states. Each state has its own problems which vary by region. Nationwide standards are too broad and are not tailored enough for problems faced by individual states.
