Like most citizens of Michigan, families in the 86th District have been left behind in this economic recovery. Since the Great Recession median income has not kept up with family bills. Parents should be able to provide for their families while setting aside for retirement and their children's college education.

The primary reason for this wage stagnation is a lack of business investment within the district, and Thomas will fight for local economic growth. When businesses start to make capital investments wage increases follow. Businesses who invest in themselves are also investing in their employees, and this is what family households in the district need. It is not the role of government to create jobs; but instead, it is the role of government to foster an economy where businesses can invest and flourish.
