I'm a proud member of the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) and commend the staff and Board of Directors for the progress they've made toward meeting the goal of generating 50% renewable energy by 2023. Currently, 40% of the energy generated on Kaua`i is from solar, hydropower, and biomass. In January 2016, renewable energy resources met an average of 89% of daytime demand.
I support measures that will help us reduce the use of fossil fuels and help mitigate the impacts of climate change on our community. I strongly support innovative technologies, including energy storage solutions, which can help us advance our clean energy goals cost-effectively and equitably. These efforts make our community more resilient, keep dollars in the local economy, and provide employment on our island.
