Massachusetts is number one in veterans' services but we do not rest on our previous accomplishments such as Valor Act I and II. This session I was proud to support the HOME act which provides excise tax exemptions for service members during deployment, extends the veterans long term care commission and provides a property tax exemption for the surviving spouse of any veteran or servicemember who suffers an active duty illness or injury that leads to their passing. It expands the public service scholarship to children of any military or serviceperson MIA or POW. The Stolen Valor Act, also passed this session, places additional penalties on those who misrepresent themselves as veterans or active military in order to gain financial advantage.
