I was proud that Republicans helped to put a stop to the Governor's misguided 50-foot buffer policy that would have meant a one-size-fits-all 50 foot strip on every waterway in the state. We forced the Governor to reconsider and ultimately passed a compromise proposal that respects our farmers and emphasizes local control.
In 2016 I supported a clarifying bill that Governor Dayton signed into law to rein in attempts by state agencies to include ditches in the new buffer law. This was not part of the original agreement, and it was good to see legislators work collaboratively to bring more clarity to the buffer strip issue.
