Despite the fact that legislators were unable to come to an agreement on a long-term transportation plan, it's important to remember that Minnesota will spend $5.5 billion on transportation needs over the next two years on roads and bridges. In 2016 alone, MnDOT will work on more than 200 road projects, including 140 in Greater Minnesota.
I remain committed to finding a long-term plan that will stabilize our transportation funding system, and hope we can build on the progress made this year and come to an agreement next session on a plan that properly invests in key road projects like Highway 23 without an increase in the gas tax.
I proudly supported a bonding bill that passed the House but unfortunately failed to pass the Senate that would have fully-funded Highway 23. I remain hopeful that we can get this passed in a special session or see it addressed early in 2017. If I am fortunate enough to continue working for you next term, you can count on me to continue to work with legislators of either party to find a compromise and get this done.
