Issue Position: Issues

Issue Position

The economy and job creation are the biggest issues facing our district. If our people have good paying, stable employment, so many of our other problems take care of themselves. Our local economy was hit hard by the recession but we are beginning to bounce back. The recovery, however, has not been uniform and many sectors are still suffering. On the state level, I want to continue the policies of Governor Walker when he says, "Wisconsin is open for business." Our businesses, large and small, need to know that they will not be over-burdened with taxes and that regulatory policies will be fair. More than anything, being business friendly is an attitude.

On the local level, I want to be the person that our businesses can count on when state government interferes with them doing their job. Our businesses need to look at government as an ally in helping them overcome obstacles rather than as a roadblock. When local businesses are trying to expand or new businesses are considering locating here, I want to work together with our local governments to help smooth the way for them.

Our economy in the First Assembly District is unusual in that it relies heavily on three sectors- tourism, agriculture and manufacturing. My priority will be to ensure the health of all three sectors in order to maintain a vibrant, year-round economy.
