Another commitment I want to make to you is that I will make it a priority to reduce the excessive mandates that state government put on local government. A large percentage of your local property taxes go to pay for unfunded mandates from the state. My years in local government have shown me the corrosive effect these mandates have on our cities, schools and counties. Some of the folks in St. Paul think they know your situation better than you and your elected officials do, and I will go to St. Paul driven to remove mandates and restore local control to you and your elected officials.
