Issue Position: Jobs

Issue Position

Today, we have the lowest percentage of working age adults in the labor force than at any other time in nearly 40 years. Over the past 6 years, that number has tanked. In Missouri, we have fewer people in the labor force now than we did 6 years ago, even though we've seen population increases (http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LASST290000000000003). First, we must have the best education and the best training opportunities available to working adults and our younger generations. Nothing is more attractive to a business than training, infrastructure, and a government that doesn't stand in the way. Secondly, through partnerships with unions, businesses, schools, churches, friends, family and everything in between, we must connect people to jobs that work well for their individual skills and strengths. Lastly, there must be an environment in Missouri where business flourishes. If our economy grows, everyone benefits.
