As I talk with educators, I see a parallel with the medical profession. Much like teachers, many physicians enter their profession because they have a love and a passion for what they do. However, mandates, roadblocks and subjective measures infringe upon and hinder the ability of professionals to perform the job that they love. Ultimately, that impacts students. One must not just look at the consequences of these actions on current teachers, but on future educators and students, as well. We must work to get control back locally and into the hands of parents and teachers. As such, I oppose common core and I will continue to be a leading voice for our students, parents, and teachers.
