Issue Position: Expand Medicaid

Issue Position

Medicaid expansion is a no-brainer. It would inject hundreds of millions of federal funds into Kansas, provide health coverage for 150,000 Kansans, and provide a life line to our struggling rural hospitals. But the status quo in Topeka puts partisan politics over people. Brownback and the Republican supermajority have offered ZERO rational reasons to oppose this. They are unabashedly using the lives of Kansans as pawns in a Washington DC partisan grudge against the President. Our policy decisions should be based on what's best for Kansas, not what best serves the desires of special interests and party leaders in DC. Duane Goossen, former Kansas Budget Director, has done excellent work on this issue, and I agree with his analysis, which he discussed in a recent piece in the Hays Post:
