Issue Position

The minimum wage should be increased, but it needs to be done incrementally so that it does not create a shock to small businesses. Over the past five years, corporate earnings and stock prices, particularly in the hospitality sector, have skyrocketed while workers earnings have remained flat. During the same time, prices for food, gasoline, and home heating fuel have increased dramatically. The divide between rich and poor has never been greater, and more families are trying to survive on or near minimum wage.
