U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte, Chair of the Senate Armed Services Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee, issued the following statement today regarding the Senate Democrats' decision to block the consideration of the Department of Defense (DOD) appropriations bill, despite the fact that the Senate-version of the bill was voted out of committee on a bipartisan vote of 30-0-with the support of every Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee.
"Last night-with our troops in harm's way confronting an unprecedented array of threats and working to keep our country safe-most Senate Democrats voted to hold funding for our men and women in uniform hostage for purely political reasons. Given the urgency and severity of the threats our country confronts and the responsibility of the federal government to provide for our nation's defense, the Democrats' decision is deeply irresponsible and troubling. I urge my colleagues across the aisle to put aside these short-sighted political tactics and do what is right for our servicemembers and our national security."
