The cost of college has increased exponentially over the last few decades. Our kids shouldn't have to sign on for a lifetime of debt just to get a good education. That's why Michael has been a champion for making college more affordable for all our students.
Michael has fought to successfully increase funding for Pell Grants, and he supports income-based student loan repayment. He has proposed legislation that would increase funding for the American Opportunity Tax Credit, which helps students pay for tuition, books and supplies.
And he thinks all Americans should be able to refinance their student loans -- the same way people are allowed to refinance a home mortgage or car loan.
Michael introduced a bipartisan bill with Sen. Lamar Alexander that would shorten the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) from 108 questions to just two that fit on a note card, saving students the time and frustration that discourages many from filling out the form.
