Rep. Keith Ellison Statement on Protests in St. Paul

Rep. Keith Ellison released the following statement on the protests in St. Paul:

"The right to demonstrate is a cornerstone of American democracy, and I support the protestors' right to peacefully assemble. I thank the law enforcement community for working to keep everyone safe. Unfortunately, the individuals who attacked St. Paul police officers by throwing objects endangered law enforcement, and the peaceful protestors around them. I commend those marchers who worked to deescalate the situation on Saturday night.

"Violence is not acceptable. We desperately need to address systemic racism in our country, throughout the criminal justice system, the economy, and in all other areas that affect our community. Those who take the peaceful route advance this mission. Those who allow their anger and frustration to turn to violence subvert it."
