Statement on the Retirement of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor

"I join all Americans in saluting Justice O'Connor on her lifetime of public service. She has served on our highest court with distinction. She was a pioneer and a role model for women and girls, not just in this country, but around the world. Justice O'Connor was a voice of reason in important decisions on civil liberties, including a woman's right to choose. I hope the President nominates a successor who will match the character, strength, intellect, and respect for the Constitution and rule of law of this remarkable woman."
