Governor Maggie Hassan believes that a solid and modern transportation infrastructure is critical for New Hampshire's people, businesses and economy. In her first term, Maggie passed a bipartisan, business-backed transportation plan to begin fixing our highways, roads and bridges and to finish the long-overdue expansion of I-93 -- the most significant state-level investment in 23 years. Maggie built on this progress earlier this year by releasing a Ten Year Transportation plan that maintains fiscal responsibility while advancing critical goals such as widening Route 106 near the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, accelerating the Exit 4A project in Londonderry and Derry, and replacing or rehabilitating 23 red-listed bridges. In the Senate, Maggie will work to build bipartisan consensus for long-term stability of the Highway Trust Fund to ensure continued federal support for critical transportation infrastructure projects in New Hampshire.
Maggie has also fought throughout her time as Governor to move forward with commuter rail from Boston to Nashua and Manchester, and she will continue working to secure federal support for critical projects like this in the Senate.
Maggie knows that we also need to update and advance other critical systems like our water supply and broadband infrastructure. As Governor, she helped fund delayed and deferred water and sewer projects, extended $8 million in low-interest drinking water and clean water loans to local communities, and pushed to create a trust fund for money from the state's MtBE case against Exxon Mobil dedicated to removing MtBE contamination and ensuring that all Granite Staters have access to clean drinking water now and into the future. Maggie also supported the launch of the North Country Cell Service Initiative, a public-private partnership to improve cell service and broadband service in the North Country. In the Senate, Maggie will seek to expand efforts that help ensure that Granite State citizens and businesses have the infrastructure foundation they need to thrive.
