Issue Position

For years, educators, parents and students have consistently complained about the obsessive focus placed on standardized testing. This focus has led many educators to simply teach to the test. I proudly co-sponsored SB364, which passed this year, that reduces the number of state-mandated high-stakes tests and asks the Department of Education to move the dates of the remaining tests to the end of each semester. It also sets a new strategic standard of reading mastery by 3rd grad and basic math mastery by 5th Grade.
