Today, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) voted in favor of the of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (MilCon-VA) funding bill for Fiscal Year 2017, which passed by a vote of 295-129. Following the vote, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard released the following statement:
"Even in the toughest of budget years, we have a responsibility to provide for a robust national defense and honor our veterans who have sacrificed so greatly for our nation. Our servicemembers and their families are already bearing the brunt of arbitrary sequester cuts--we cannot continue to slash funding for our military housing and access to critical medical services. This bill invests in military infrastructure projects across the country, including nearly $200 million for projects in Hawaii. It also addresses the need to continue to strengthen our economy, increase access to critical mental health services and suicide prevention outreach, and support the critical role that Hawaii plays in the Asia-Pacific region."
