Deborah Ross: North Carolina Needs A Senator Who Cares

Statement

Date: March 30, 2016
Location: Raleigh, NC

Deborah Ross, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, responded to incumbent Senator Richard Burr's claim that North Carolina's recently passed discrimination law, House Bill 2 (HB2) does not discriminate. Senator Burr's comments come amid an "onslaught of criticism, economic sanctions," and as more than 80 business leaders and CEOs condemn the law, saying it "sanctioned discrimination across North Carolina" and that it is "bad for our employees and bad for business."

Deborah issued the following statement after Senator Burr's claim that HB2 "does not discriminate:"

"To say that HB2 "does not discriminate' is simply wrong. North Carolina needs a U.S. Senator who understands and cares about the law's impact on all the people of our state, the economic growth that could be lost and the jobs that may move elsewhere. HB2 is hurting our state because of the very fact that it is discriminatory, and to suggest otherwise is simply out of touch."
