Issue Position: Supporting our Nation's Veterans

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2016
Issues: Veterans

From the foundation of this country to the current War on Terror, our men and women of the armed services have fought to keep us safe and protect the freedoms and liberties we enjoy every day. Without these heroes we would not be where we are today, living in the best country ever known to man. This is why I am committed to ensuring our nation's veterans receive the benefits and treatment they deserve.

In 2016 we hosted the first-ever Veterans' Benefits Summit here in the 8th Congressional District. It was an opportunity for veteran support networks at the federal, state, and local level to come together in one place to serve as a resource for the 60,000 veterans living in south central and southeast Missouri.

I will continue to fight to make sure our veterans get the healthcare treatment they deserve, and that starts with them being able to see the doctor of their choice closer to their homes. I have voted on numerous occasions to give our nation's veterans access to private healthcare providers instead of being forced to wait in the VA backlog. Additionally, I have supported measures to hold personnel at the VA accountable for the terrible and unconscionable treatment our veterans were receiving at different VA facilities around the country. If you know of a veteran needing assistance, please have them contact me
