Cramer Statement on March for Life in Washington, D.C.

Statement

Date: Jan. 22, 2016
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement today in honor of the March for Life being held in Washington, D.C., today.

"I never cease to be amazed and inspired by the hundreds of thousands of pro-life activists who come to Washington every year on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision to fight for the most vulnerable of our citizens who are unable to fight for themselves. I'm especially honored by the fact that 500 North Dakotans once again made the trip. Of all the people participating in the march, those North Dakotans are probably the least affected by today's snowstorm!

It was a pleasure to gather on the steps of the North Dakota Capitol earlier this week in 14 below wind chill temperatures and advocate for life. While it has been more than four decades since abortion on demand was legalized by the Supreme Court of the United States, we have seen tremendous progress in the pro-life movement with the passage of the Hyde Amendment that prohibits federal funding for abortions and with a partial-birth abortion ban. Most recently we were able to pass a prohibition on funding for any abortion provider in the recent Budget Reconciliation Act. And even though the President vetoed it, we were able to get it on his desk and send a clear signal on how much different America would be if we had a pro-life president.

I am unable to be there in person today, but I'm thinking about the marchers and encouraging them to stay in the fight. They need to know that they have a Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives who is standing with them.

The March for Life began in Washington, D.C., as a small demonstration and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration that has followed on the somber anniversary of Roe v. Wade every year since 1973 is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, legalized abortion on demand."
