Statement

Date: Nov. 19, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Rokita (IN-04) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act.

"While the United States has a proud tradition of welcoming refugees into our country, we cannot ignore the high-threat environment that exists in the world. This bill honors our Constitutional duty to the American people to keep them safe by requiring the Obama Administration to verify that any refugees from Syria or Iraq entering the United States have no terrorist or radical sympathies," said Rep. Rokita.

H.R. 4038 requires that the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence unanimously certify that any refugees traveling from Syria or Iraq do not pose a security threat before admittance into the United States.
