Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement as details of the Republican budget proposal emerge:

"Republicans have stumbled through this budget process to produce yet another disastrous blueprint for inequality and disinvestment in America. At a time when families are working harder than ever but feel like they are treading water or falling behind, this Republican plan would devastate the economy -- and the middle class.

"Americans are looking for progress on income inequality, affordable education, infrastructure, retirement security, and a fairer tax code. This budget slashes $6 trillion in investments that keep our economy strong while serving as a smokescreen for the radical Trump-Cruz-Rubio tax agenda to give massive tax cuts to the wealthy.

"While the Republican leadership promises to make additional cuts to the social safety net in another attempt to appease the most extreme members of their caucus, hard working families continue to be ignored by this Tea Party controlled Congress."
