Issue Position

*Our country has an abundance of resources, wildlife and beautiful places, and I will be a good steward for the environment.

*A healthy environment provides us, and future generations, with many valuable services such as flood control, clean air and water, and even bees that pollinate plants and make agriculture productive. It is just common sense to protect our environment against pollution, the pressures of over-development, and commercial excesses.

*As a member of Maryland's General Assembly, I received a 100% rating from the League of Conservation Voters. I also have the endorsement of the Sierra Club and a clear record of supporting environmental protection, including supporting renewable energy production, pollution reduction and protecting the Chesapeake Bay. I co-sponsored legislation to reduce the state's greenhouse gas emissions, passed legislation that strengthens the state's smart growth laws, preserves green spaces and promotes bicycle lanes in highway planning, and I fought the lawn fertilizer industry to reduce storm water pollution of the Chesapeake Bay. I will continue to fight for our environment, and to protect important environmental laws from Republican efforts to weaken them in Congress.
