Fischer Votes Against Budget Agreement

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement after voting against the budget proposal this morning:

"I understand the importance of long-term certainty and appreciate the hard work of our congressional leadership to find a compromise. At the same time, I have strong concerns regarding the substance of this agreement.

"I am particularly concerned with the potential harm this legislation will inflict on Nebraska's economy and our agriculture community. Under the current terms of the legislation, ag producers would be negatively impacted by changes to the crop insurance program. They should not be targeted to bear the brunt of this agreement -- it's a question of basic fairness."

"Finally, Nebraskans sent me to Washington to stop wasteful spending. The reforms within this agreement are a good step forward, but much more needs to be done to address our $18 trillion in debt."
