U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), chairman of the Commerce Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, applauded the passage of a long-term highway bill out of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Senator Fischer released the following statement regarding the bill this afternoon:
"Communities, families, businesses, and the traveling public deserve greater certainty and reliability when it comes to investing in our nation's transportation network. Today's committee markup in the House is an encouraging sign that Congress is now one step closer to delivering a multi-year highway bill.
"I was pleased to see several important provisions included in the House version of this bill. As this process continues to move forward, I remain committed to achieving a long-term solution for improving our nation's infrastructure in Nebraska and the entire nation. We must continue to spur economic growth and strengthen the safety of roads, highways, and bridges across America."
