Statement

Date: July 26, 2015

It was a shortened week here in D.C. but still very productive. Here's a look at what we did:

Sanctuary Cities

This week we passed a bill I cosponsored, H.R. 3009, Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act. This bill would cut funding to Sanctuary Cities that are releasing criminal aliens.

This is an important first step, because we need to enforce our immigration laws that are on the books, not blatantly ignore them.

Iran Deal

I heard overwhelmingly from my constituents last week that you did not think the Iran Deal that President Obama and his Administration negotiated was a good deal. I am still concerned about the deal and was even more concerned about this agreement after I got a classified briefing on the deal from Secretary of State John Kerry & Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz.

I will continue to gather input and hear from experts on whether this deal will truly make America, Israel, and the Middle East safer. Next week, before Congress goes home for the August recess, I will head down to read the classified documents associated with the bill.

Congressional Croatian Caucus

We have a large Croatian population in Ohio's 14th Congressional District and I am proud to serve as Co-Chair of the Congressional Croation Caucus.

So this week I met with the U.S. Ambassador to Croatia, Julieta Valls Noyes, and my Co-Chair, Rep. Janice Hahn of California, to discuss how we can keep strong bilateral relations between the United States & Croatia.
