Statement

Date: Sept. 20, 2015
Issues: Abortion

It was a busy week both in DC and here at home in OH-14.

Online Safety

On Tuesday, I went to Shore Middle School to participate in an online safety seminar with the students and Google. We went through some techniques for making smart passwords so the students can protect themselves, and their information, online. You can read more about this fun and productive event here.

Planned Parenthood

As many of you are aware, we saw some very disturbing videos regarding the discussion and sale of baby parts by Planned Parenthood. I am proud to stand for life and this week, the House passed two bills that I co-sponsored:

H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act, which blocks any federal funding from being provided to Planned Parenthood for one year, unless they agree that they will not perform abortions. Importantly, this bill will not reduce the overall amount of federal funding for women's health programs and initiatives, as the funds will be made available to other facilities.

H.R. 3504, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which essentially requires doctors and nurses to do everything they can to keep a child alive during a failed abortion. If they don't provide the same care to that child as they would to any other infant born at that same gestational stage, they will be criminally prosecuted. I think that's a common sense bill and I was proud to support it.

Greatest Generation

Before I went to DC I had the chance to tour and visit with the residents of Brooks House Assisted Living in Hiram, a welcoming community for members of our Greatest Generation.

Military Academy Information Day

On Saturday morning, I hosted a Military Academy Information Day at Auburn Career Center. We had a great turnout and prospective students had the chance to speak with representatives from all of the different service academies about the opportunities to attend school and succeed there.

It was an honor to meet all of the impressive young constituents who are interested in serving our country.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your voice in Congress,
