Statement from Governor Hassan on MtBE Decision

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today after the New Hampshire Supreme Court affirmed the lower court decisions in the case of State v. Exxon, et al., which resulted in a $236 million verdict in favor of the State:

"New Hampshire's natural resources and beauty are critical to our high quality of life and our economy, a defining characteristic of what makes our state a special place to live, work and visit. Today's decision is an example of the State's vigilance in fighting against pollution that damages our environment and threatens the health of our people.

"I want to thank the countless people across the state whose efforts over the years helped lead to this decision in favor of the state. I look forward to working with the legislature to determine how we can best use these funds to support critical priorities like cleaning and protecting our water and to maintain our commitment to a fiscally responsible, balanced budget."
