U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) released the statement below following a vote in the Senate to defund Planned Parenthood. Scott voted for the measure, which failed to meet the 60 vote threshold by a count of 53-46.

"With every new video that is released, we see more and more how important it is that Planned Parenthood be defunded. That's why I helped introduce the important legislation we voted on tonight, and why I want to thank so many of my colleagues for their support on this issue.

While we may have been just a few votes short tonight, we will continue our efforts to protect children and ensure that women's health remains a priority."
