I am honored to represent the many veterans who live in the Fifth District. They have all proudly served our country and fought to defend our democracy. This morning I was proud to participate in the annual Leonardtown Veterans Day Parade--one of the largest parades in the state of Maryland--and to speak at the Memorial Ceremony following the parade.
Along with our thanks for their service, we also have an important responsibility to ensure that our veterans receive the support and benefits they have earned and deserve. I remain committed to correcting the unacceptable lapses in the quality of health care services at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that have forced veterans to experience long waiting times to see doctors or be given treatment.
I will also continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to end VA disability claims backlogs. If you are a veteran having trouble with your claim, I encourage you to contact my District Offices in Greenbelt and Waldorf with questions regarding casework.
On this Veteran's Day, let us remember our duty to support our veterans who deserve our respect and gratitude every day and to extend our thanks for their service to our great nation.
