Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico's Third District released the following statement today after House Republicans voted to create a Select Committee on Planned Parenthood and blocked an effort to end the Select Committee on Benghazi.
"House Republicans voted today to create yet another politically motivated Select Committee that will do nothing to create jobs or grow paychecks for hard-working Americans. Instead they are embarking on a partisan witch hunt attacking women's health. Already numerous committee hearings have been held on the significantly altered videos and even the Chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee has said there was no evidence Planned Parenthood broke the law.
"Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy made it clear that the Benghazi Select Committee, which has cost taxpayers millions of dollars, is about Hillary Clinton and scoring political points. This new committee is more of the same and comes at a time when there are serious issues that Congress must tackle. House Republicans are spending more time on their political select committees than they are finding solutions to fund the government, pass a transportation bill, or extend the job creating Export-Import Bank. It's time for House Republicans to stop playing political games and do their jobs."
