Ron Looks for Answers at Hearing on ISIS

Ron questioned witnesses on the progress of the administration's goal of degrading and ultimately defeating ISIS at a Foreign Relations Committee hearing this week.

Brian Katulis, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, told Johnson, "There's a strategy on paper, but the implementation for that strategy has been lacking in certain aspects."

Fair Chance Act -- "Ban the Box"

Ron spoke at the Coalition for Public Safety's Fair Sentencing & Fair Chances National Tour Launch this week.

Last week, Ron, along with a bipartisan group of his colleagues, introduced the Fair Chance Act. The legislation gives formerly incarcerated citizens a fairer chance at securing employment. Informally, this idea is known by the phrase "ban the box," referring to something often seen on job applications, a box applicants must check if they previously were convicted of a felony or other crime. The Fair Chance Act eliminates the practice.

HSGAC Committee Discusses Regulatory Reform

As chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Ron held a hearing this week to address issues surrounding America's regulatory burden. "The root of the problem isn't any one regulatory agency but a process that often lacks accountability and a connection to real-world impacts," he said.

Constitution Day

The nation celebrated the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 this week. In honor of Constitution Day, Ron participated in a Google Hangout with Liberty Day and filmed a separate video on the importance of educating and informing the next generation.

Hispanic Heritage Month

September is Hispanic Heritage Month. "These Americans, our neighbors, have served in our military, taught in our schools, grown businesses from the ground up, and above all helped build a safe and secure America for the next generation," Ron commented.
