SCIA Passes Indian Trust Asset Reform Act

Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs (SCIA), praised the Committee's passage of S. 383, the Indian Trust Asset Reform Act. This bill would provide for Indian trust asset management reform within the Department of the Interior. The bill, S. 383, was introduced by Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID). The bill will now advance to be considered by the full Senate.

"Today, the Committee passed legislation that will give tribes the authority to better manage their own trust assets," said Chairman Barrasso. "The United States' solemn obligation is to ensure that Indian trust assets benefit Indian people. I will work with Members to help advance this bill through the full Senate."
