Issue Position

One of Congress' primary responsibilities is to be responsible stewards of our national security and the men and women who defend it. Marsha Blackburn is honored to count the men and women of the 101st Airborne Division as well as Tennessee Guardsmen among her constituents.

Marsha Blackburn knows that we live in a dangerous and volatile world. She believes that our intelligence community and our Armed Forces must have the tools they need to keep us safe. That is why she continues to work to ensure that defense spending meets the needs of those that defend liberty and keep us safe.

Blackburn also knows that countries that politically enfranchise women are more likely to be moderate, democratic, and American allies. For that reason, she has worked with female candidates in Iraq, Afghanistan, and across the Middle East to ensure that women in these vital countries have a voice.

Veterans

Marsha Blackburn knows that our veterans rank as the bravest among us. While their sacrifice to our country can never be fully weighed or repaid, Congressman Blackburn works to ensure that America does right by her veterans and their families, including living up to its promises.

That is why she, like other Americans, was shocked to learn that at least 40 U.S. veterans died while waiting for care at the Phoenix, AZ Veterans Health Administration (VA). She voted for legislation which provided funds for a criminal investigation of the VA regarding this and related issues. Marsha joined her House colleagues and voted in support of H.R. 1994 the VA Accountability Act which provides the Secretary of the VA with increased authority to remove VA employees for performance misconduct.
Marsha also voted for legislation, H.R. 4810, the Veteran Access to Care Act which allows veterans to receive their healthcare from non-VA facilities when wait times are too long or the veterans live too far from a VA.

Congressman Blackburn believes that veterans' sacrifices made on behalf of this nation deserve the utmost respect and admiration, and makes supporting veterans' programs a priority issue at every turn.
