U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement regarding the president's nomination of General Joseph Dunford to serve as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff:
"I have tremendous respect for General Dunford, and he is an outstanding choice to serve as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His leadership of the Marine Corps and his extensive combat leadership experience in Iraq and Afghanistan make him tremendously qualified for this position, and he will provide candid military advice and valuable expertise at a time when threats to our national security are increasing. I look forward to supporting General Dunford's nomination after the confirmation hearing process."
