My voting record reflects my belief that there should be a floor which no family should fall below. Poverty is among the most intractable problems facing our country, threatening access to the American Dream for millions of Americans over generations. Despite a booming economy, millions still struggle to access basic necessities. Much of the gains made over the last 40 years have gone to the wealthiest Americans, and the wealth gap has increased to its highest levels since the Gilded Age. This stark reality demands a critical examination of our past attempts at eradicating poverty, and their lasting impact on our democracy. My votes and legislation reflect my position to eradicate this disparity. Specific pieces of legislation: 1. Guaranteed Income Pilot Program - to establish a nationwide pilot program to test the outcomes of a federally funded income support program that keeps more American families from experiencing permanent financial fallout and lasting poverty from a single unexpected crisis 2. Pursuing Equity in Mental Health - legislation to address the disparities in access, care and study of mental health issues among people of color; 3. The Healthy MOM Act, which would allow women to enroll in, or change their health coverage if they become pregnant But priorities that will always take forefront will be the ones that ensure the people have security, dignity, and prosperity - in times of crisis or otherwise.
