On The Ballot: Running, Democratic for State House (NC) - District 57
| Pro-choice | a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support legalizing abortion when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape? | ||
| No | c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds (e.g. Medicaid) for organizations that perform abortions? | ||
| No reproductive limits should be set by the NC legislator. It is a medical decision, not a legal one! I advocate to immediately repeal the 12-week ban to what existed before, but in an ideal state, there would be no legislation as it is up to the trained medical physician in consultation with his/her patient as to what makes sense medically. | |||

| No | e) Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug offenders? | ||
| Yes | f) Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in North Carolina? | ||
| Yes I support the legalization of both recreational and medical marijuana in our state. I defer to industry experts and our medical community to help us determine the limits. I would also review progress made in other states and lessons learned there before implementing legislation here in North Carolina. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth (e.g. grants, tax incentives)? | ||
| No | b) Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector (e.g. for business or the environment)? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of North Carolina? | ||
| Yes | d) Do you support government spending on affordable housing projects in North Carolina? | ||
| Inflation and higher prices for basic needs like food and gas affect all North Carolinians, but it is particularly harder for those already living paycheck-to-paycheck. I believe we need to increase the minimum wage to $15/hour, increasing with inflation. We need to substantially increase salaries of critical employees across our state, namely early childhood care workers, public school teachers/staff, and government workers. We need to continue investing in small business owners, farmers, and local entrepreneurship initiatives that help boost local economies. There are a lot of variables at play and as a businesswoman with my MBA I understand the intricacies involved and committed to driving costs lower for North Carolinians. | |||

| Yes | b) Do you support state funding for charter schools? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support increasing teacher salaries AND/OR benefits in North Carolina? | ||
| Yes | d) Should immigrants in the United States who graduate from North Carolina high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities, regardless of immigration status? | ||
| I adamantly oppose expanding private school vouchers! Currently our NC Republican legislators are proposing to fully fund 100% of requests for the school choice vouchers regardless of income. I strongly disagree with funding requests from Tier 3 and Tier 4, which are families of four making over $250,000 a year or not even reporting their household income. These families are likely already sending their children to private school and do not need financial support from public taxpayer dollars. We do not divert tax dollars to residents depending on if they use their local fire station or not. Just like fire stations, public schools are there for public usage regardless of who uses it. Yet we are on track over the next decade to divert more than a half-billion dollars of state taxpayer funds annually to these vouchers. If we could reallocate these funds, in addition to better supporting our public schools, I would better support accredited preschool programming and organizations like Smart Start to ensure our children are ready to thrive in Kindergarten and that parents have reliable care so they can maintain steady jobs to provide ongoing income for their families. | |||

| No | e) Do you support the implementation of ranked choice voting in North Carolina? | ||
| Yes | f) Should it be mandatory for any potential voter to be verified as a U.S. citizen before registering to vote or casting a ballot? | ||
| Yes | a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation (e.g. red flag laws, closing the boyfriend loophole)? | ||
| Yes | b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support the right to concealed carry in North Carolina? | ||
| I have tragically lost three people in my life to gun violence. We can no longer feel safe going to a movie theater, grocery store, concert, parade, or place of worship. Our children have to learn active shooter drills because our leaders are doing nothing to protect them. This is not about "gun control." This is about coming together and finding common sense ways to keep guns out of the hands of those who only want to seek harm. Namely, invest in gun storage initiatives. We must do more to ensure gun owners are responsible and lock their firearms unloaded, separate from ammunition. We should also implement red flag laws. I would like to resurrect and pass House Bill 525, where a law enforcement officer or "concerned citizen" can file a petition to temporarily halt another's person's right to have a firearm. It allows North Carolinians to file for Extreme Risk Protection Orders, which would stop a person who appears to be a risk to themself or others from obtaining a firearm. | |||

| I am a successful businesswoman with my MBA/MSIS from UNC Chapel Hill. I have 15+ years of experience in leadership positions in companies across multiple sectors that help fuel North Carolina's economy. I intimately understand the concerns of small business owners, as well as what employees deserve in order to thrive, and how local businesses impact our local economy overall. I will work on legislation that supports all angles and beneficiaries! I also care deeply about our public school system, reproductive freedom, and gun violence prevention. Thank you for your vote - it is an honor to serve! |
