| Pro-choice | a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support legalizing abortion when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape? | ||
| c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions? | |||
| d) Other or expanded principles: | |||
| No | a) In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions? | ||
| No | b) Do you support raising taxes on any income or on any entity, to promote economic growth? | ||
| I do not support across the board pay cuts for state employees without knowing how cuts affect specific departments. I do not support raising taxes on middle and lower income families and small businesses. I do support wealthy individuals and large wealthy corporations paying their fair share. | |||
| No | a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes? | ||
| No | b) Should an individual under 18 accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult? | ||
| No | c) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police? | ||
| No | d) Do you support the use of private prisons? | ||
| No | e) Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders? | ||
| I do not support the death penalty under any circumstances because it is a punishment that cannot be corrected. Local law enforcement should be able to focus on local issues without also having to police federal issues. I also have concerns about minorities not contacting the police when they are victims of crime if they fear their local police force. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Kansas? | ||
| Yes | d) Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19? | ||
| I can support reducing government regulations as long as safety is not impeded. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in Kansas? | ||
| No | b) Do you support state funding for charter schools? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support increasing teacher salaries AND/OR benefits in Kansas? | ||
| Yes | d) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Kansas's high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities? | ||
| I do not support public dollars going to private schools because they are not held to the same educational and acceptance standards as public schools. The lack of transparency with taxpayer dollars is also a concern for me. I support protecting the public school safety net for every child regardless of where they are schooled. Increasing immigrant access to higher education allows them to contribute more fully to the economy. Kansas is experiencing a shortage of educated workers at this time, and we need to do more to help out businesses by providing them a highly qualified and capable workforce. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives? | ||
| Kansas already receives 40% of its energy from renewable sources. There is a great opportunity for expansion of this resource. In addition to helping urban home owners powering their house for less, renewable energy presents an opportunity for Kansas agriculture producers to diversify their income by allowing wind turbines and solar on their land. Extreme weather events continue to be a burden for Kansas agriculture producers and everyday citizens. We must work to lessen these events. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support the regulation of campaign contributions from corporations, unions, and individuals? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting? | ||
| No | c) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls? | ||
| Yes | d) Do you support automatic voter registration? | ||
| No | e) Do you support a constitutional amendment to authorize the state legislature to revoke or suspend rules and regulations adopted by executive agencies or officers by a simple majority vote? | ||
| The requirement of government issued photo identification is a barrier to our constitutional right to vote that affects older and minority voters disproportionally. Therefore, I cannot support it. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation? | ||
| Yes | b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows? | ||
| Yes | c) Should a license be required for gun ownership? | ||
| I support common sense gun laws that respect the Second Amendment and keep families safer. | |||
| Yes | a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support a government-run (single-payer) healthcare program such as Medicare-for All? | ||
| Yes | c) Should an individual have the right to choose to die through euthanasia? | ||
| d) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations? | |||
| Yes | e) Do you support expanding paid family AND/OR medical leave opportunities? | ||
| Yes | f) Do you support lowering the cost of prescription drugs? | ||
| Yes | g)Do you support the legalization of medical marijuana in Kansas? | ||
| Medicare for All is a federal issue. I support it being available for anyone who wants it while not forcing it on those who choose another means for obtaining health insurance. I fully support KanCare expansion in Kansas, and it was a founding principle in my initial run for office. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Kansas's anti-discrimination laws? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Kansas's anti-discrimination laws? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support greater efforts by Kansas's state government in closing gender, racial and other wage gaps? | ||
| I do not support discrimination. | |||
| My top issue is fully funding education, including K-12 schools, trade schools and universities. Education is the basis of our society and our economy and must be fully supported. District 16 is the home to Johnson County Community College and the KU-Edwards Campus, as well as parts of the three biggest school districts in Johnson County. University tuition soared and funds for regular building maintenance dropped under the Brownback tax plan. In order to retain our best and brightest students, we must continue to restore state support to universities. | |||
| My top legislative priority is fully funding schools, including special education. We can fund this by maintaining the responsible budget we've had for the last four years. |
