Infrastructure is definitely a priority in District 44. Local government in this area has proven themselves thoughtful and adept at addressing local infrastructure issues. It is my goal to push for D.O.T. to relinquish more of its funding to local governments that have established priorities and developed plans to implement road repairs and improvements. I do not believe that Columbia can better prioritize and implement infrastructure needs in Nexton, Moncks Corner or Deer Park, than their respective county administrations.
Decentralizing police training, especially in today's climate, is more important than ever. We need to be utilizing technical schools that are already strategically located throughout the state so we can bring every law enforcement professional in for training on a much more regular basis. I believe dollars saved by fewer settlements would assist in funding this, and not having to provide accommodations while officers are receiving training would supplement that as well.
