Nevada State Legislative Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes b) Do you support legalizing abortion when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
Yes c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
I am pro life. Even if in the case of incest or rape, I do not agree with it but would not want to be in the position of prosecuting someone that would be faced with having to make such a terrible decision. This is such a difficult area and I would not "cast the stone" at someone faced with such a difficult decision.
Yes a) In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
No b) In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No c) Do you support increasing sales taxes to help fund statewide education?
No d) Do you support an increase in state gaming taxes on establishments with a monthly revenue over $250,000?
For reducing state employee salaries and/or pensions I believe we need to look at all areas to review departments or areas where there are waste and/or redundancies and we should focus on those areas first to save money. The exception to this would be our law enforcement and first responders who risk their lives for us and we need to support them.
Yes a) Do you support a limit on campaign contributions to state candidates?
Yes b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
Yes d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
No e) Do you support automatic voter registration?
f) Other or expanded principles:
Yes a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Should an individual under 18 accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
Yes c) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Yes d) Do you support the use of private prisons in Nevada?
Yes e) Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
I believe individuals under 18 should be prosecuted as an adult should the circumstances validate the justification. For instance, if a 17 year plans a murder with motive they should be tried to the full extent of the law. However, a child accidentally firing a gun that was not locked up at home should be not be tried as an adult. I would consider Private Prisons for cost savings, if savings are substantiated. Private prisons should have greater transparency for accounting, security measures and basic living conditions. I also think there should be greater focus for rehabilitation.
Yes a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes b) Do you support lowering state income taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes c) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector?
Yes d) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
No e) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Nevada?
No f) Do you support requiring employers to provide paid family leave?
Yes g) Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
h) Other or expanded principles:
No a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in Nevada?
Yes b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes c) Do you support increasing teacher salaries AND/OR benefits in Nevada?
No d) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Nevada high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
I am for the State of Nevada adopting the highest possible standards with state & local input that are higher than the federal level. I believe too much money goes to administrative levels and we need to redirect those funds to the teachers in the classroom.
Yes a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes b) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
Yes d) Do you support the expansion of the Long Canyon Gold Mine?
Would need to review the current funding to decide if current standards are not being met. I would support Long Canyon Gold Mine expansion so long as environmental concerns are addressed.
No a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
Yes c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom after passing gun safety training?
No d) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
I believe in responsible gun ownership and I do believe in background checks.
Yes a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
Yes b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through Nevada's health care programs?
No c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
No d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
No e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
No f) Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
Opioid abuse funding would be a good goal if the budget could support it. Medicaid expansion would need to be well thought out so that providers receive fair compensation so we don't have a talent drain and also provide good medical care. If children are not vaccinated then protocols must be in place to protect school environments.
Yes a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Nevada's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Nevada's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support greater efforts by Nevada state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
d) Other or expanded principles:
The questions posed already reflect my top priorities of business friendly environments, education and health care.
Promote a business friendly environment to attract more diverse businesses to our great state to create good paying jobs for our constituents. Without increasing taxes we can do this through less regulation and keeping taxes low.
