South Carolina Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
The integrity of the campaign process is critical to protecting our voters' choices for elected officials. When money is funneled indirectly and hard to trace, it is very difficult for voters to know exactly what is impacting the information they receive. We should strive for greater transparency in the election process, and full disclosure of sources of funding is a great place to start.
Yes Do you support increasing defense spending?
Having the strongest, most effective military in the world is an absolute necessity to maintaining our position as the world's leader. Our strength not only protects our own citizens, but our allies around the globe because it is a deterrent to any rogue governments hoping to take advantage of others.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
We should have had an emergency fund in place. I called our Senator with my idea for payroll protection. The key was to announce on day one not to lay people off. The plan would provide a payroll grant of 2 weeks at a time so no one business would take a huge lump sum. Monitoring at the county level we could get as many businesses back to work as quickly as possible, minimizing the economic impact. No expanded unemployment nor free money was necessary, and the cost would have been significantly less. Now let's get everyone back to work!
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Protecting our environment based on real data and science is critical. Emotion and "feel good" laws that create many unintended consequences are not the answer. We need to review the process used for determining what is safe for our air and avoid any outside influences that might distort the answer away from scientific facts. The Green New Deal and/or a carbon tax would both be disastrous and cause tremendous problems.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
We should enforce the laws already on the books, especially those involving criminals possessing a weapon. We do not need "red flag" laws that will have many unintended consequences and greatly harm our 2nd Amendment right.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
No Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Yes Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
We must always protect our close ally, Israel no matter what. We also should maintain some presence in the Middle East as a peacekeeping force. Trying to solve the centuries old problems of the different religious factions in the Arab world is likely never going to be possible for Americans who don't understand that culture. For the most part, our meddling is not wanted anyway, but for those who desire our support, we stand ready to back them.
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
1. Get a budget negotiated, balanced, and passed! 2. Pass term limits for members of Congress. 3. Repeal and replace Obamacare with a competitive, free market based plan. 4. Pass a bill to limit all bills to only the problem being addressed, and require that they are concise and to the point so they can be fully read and discussed before voting.
