New Hampshire State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Pro-life a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes b) Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
No c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
d) Other or expanded principles:

1) Budget Stabilization:Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing New Hampshire's budget.

No a) Do you support the creation of a state income tax in New Hampshire?
Yes b) Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
Yes c) Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
Yes d) Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
Failure to enact a balanced budget is reckless and sets up future generations for hardship. Taxpayers should be respected, have their concerns prioritized, and are not to be taken for granted.
No a) Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
No b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
No d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
No e) Do you support imposing penalties on state legislators who fail to attend legislative sessions?
Free speech means that you should be able to spend money to promote your speech without government meddling. Photo IDs should not be required for exercising a fundamental right, although there should be penalties for voter fraud. Legislators who do not attend should be held accountable by voters directly.
No a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
Yes c) Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
No d) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Capital punishment is currently too expensive and should be saved for the most horrific of crimes, therefore until the system is reformed I am opposed to its current implementation. Minors should only be prosecuted as adults for murder or attempted murder. Immigration is the responsibility of the federal government. Local taxpayer money should not be spent on federal prerogatives, it would become a slippery slope and effectively federalize local police.
No a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes b) Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes c) Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?
No d) Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
No e) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
No f) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of New Hampshire?
Implementing a drug test scheme for welfare recipients is an added expense for taxpayers that would likely cause riskier behavior on the part of drug users. If we are going to drug test recipients of public money, then all public employees, including legislators should be required to pass drug tests.
No a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in New Hampshire?
Yes b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
No c) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from New Hampshire high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
d) Other or expanded principles:
No a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
No b) Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
No c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
People who pollute should be held accountable by the law. If you pollute you should be fined. If you knowingly pollute you should possibly go to jail. However, the government should not meddle in the energy market, nor should burdensome regulations be enacted that would leave NH at an economic disadvantage compared to other states.
No a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
No b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
Yes c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
No d) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
Ownership of a firearm is a fundamental right, however it requires responsibility. Gun-control schemes are ignored by criminals but punish the most law-abiding and responsible firearm owners. Use of a firearm to commit a crime should incur an additional penalty.
Yes a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
No b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through New Hampshire's health care programs?
No c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
Yes d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
No e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
I am in favor of increased opioid treatment funding if it is proven effective and saves the taxpayer more money in the long run by lessening the demand on first responders. I am for more individual control of healthcare choices, the healthcare market is horribly broken thanks to decades of government micromanagement and regulatory capture.
Yes a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in New Hampshire's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in New Hampshire's anti-discrimination laws?
No c) Do you support greater efforts by New Hampshire state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
Sexual orientation and gender identity are already a part of NH anti-discrimination law. Therefore I support the status quo.
I oppose any new broad-based taxes such as a sales tax or income tax. I am for lessening business regulation and expenses because we deserve the strongest economy in the United States. Our children should inherit a state that is freer than we found it.
