On The Ballot: Running, Democratic for State House (PA) - District 189
| Pro-choice | a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support legalizing abortion when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape? | ||
| No | c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds (e.g. Medicaid) for organizations that perform abortions? | ||
| No | a) In order to balance the budget, do you support limiting state government spending on social programs (e.g. SNAP, TANF)? | ||
| No | b) Do you support a decrease in income taxes in order to promote economic growth? | ||
| No | c) Do you support a wealth tax in order to pay for public programs in your state? | ||
| I support a progressive tax. We are one of only 4 states that still have a flat tax. This only hurts the poor and the middle class. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support capital punishment for violent crimes? | ||
| b) Should an individual under 18 accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult? | |||
| c) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police? | |||
| No | d) Do you support the use of private prisons? | ||
| No | e) Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug offenders? | ||
| I can not answer yes or no for b and c, it depends on the crime. I think Judges should determine sentencing on non violent offenders, not a mandatory minimum. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth (e.g. grants, tax incentives)? | ||
| b) Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector (e.g. for business or the environment)? | |||
| Yes | c) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Pennsylvania? | ||
| Yes | d) Do you support government spending on affordable housing projects in Pennsylvania? | ||
| I can not answer yes or no for question b, because many gov't and private partnerships happen and in some cases we need government to watch, in others, we don't, so this is an open ended question that depending on the circumstance the anwer could be different. | |||
| No | a) Do you support adopting federal education standards (e.g. Common Core) in Pennsylvania? | ||
| No | b) Do you support state funding for charter schools? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support increasing teacher salaries AND/OR benefits in Pennsylvania? | ||
| Yes | d) Should immigrants in the United States who graduate from Pennsylvania high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities, regardless of immigration status? | ||
| Yes | e) Should there be an increase in state funding for K-12 schools in low income areas? | ||
| There should be an increase in state funding for all k-12 schools, the Commonwealth finally supported public education in the last budget after it being neglected for nearly 20 years. I support cyber charter reform, as it has not changed since 1997 and PA laws are the most lienent in the nation. We to to make sure these corporations stop the thievery on our taxpayers, it is horrible. If cyber charter want to be considered public schools, then they should follow the same rules as brick and mortar. Cyber charter graduation rates are extremely low and when the kids go back to brick and mortar, they come back on average 2 years behind. There is no wellness checks, no accountability and Corporations and making millions off of our taxpayers with no accountability. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)? | ||
| b) Do you support state governments allowing permits for drilling on public lands? | |||
| Yes | c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives? | ||
| d) Do you support the continuation of fracking in order to bolster the economy? | |||
| For b and d, I do support, but they need to give back to their communiites and select the right locations. I don't want it to be a free for all, but we need to be energy dependent, so again, I support with restictions. | |||
| Yes | a)Do you support limiting campaign contributions from corporations, unions, and individuals? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support the use of an independent or bipartisan commission for redistricting? | ||
| c) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls? | |||
| Yes | d) Do you support automatic voter registration? | ||
| Yes | e) Do you support the implementation of ranked choice voting in Pennsylvania? | ||
| For c, you already had to have proof in order to vote, this is just a stunt to make people think our elections are not secure when they absolutley are. My mother was an example of a person with no drivers license and no picture ID after she was too old to drive. The polling place knew my mom for 30 years, and to think that she would not have been able to vote, after being a Supervoter, infuriates me. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation (e.g. red flag laws, closing the boyfriend loophole)? | ||
| Yes | b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support the right to concealed carry in Pennsylvania? | ||
| I support the 2nd Am. and common sense gun laws, like most gun owners do. Safe storage, background checks and red flag laws, like many of the southern states already have. | |||
| Yes | a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse? | ||
| b) Do you support a government-run (e.g. single-payer) healthcare program such as Medicare-for-All? | |||
| Yes | c) Should an individual have the right to choose to die (e.g. those with a terminal illness) through euthanasia? | ||
| Yes | d) Do you support mandating vaccinations (e.g. for school or employment)? | ||
| Yes | e) Do you support expanding paid family AND/OR medical leave benefits (e.g. maternity leave)? | ||
| Yes | f) Should the government be able to regulate the cost of prescription drugs? | ||
| For answer B, that is the question no one can seem to figure out. We should never have a person be turned away from medical care as the richest country in the world, but funding it is the questions. This is not a state issue and I am not in congress, so I really don't have a final answer on this. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support inclusion of sexual orientation in Pennsylvania's anti-discrimination laws? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Pennsylvania's anti-discrimination laws? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support greater efforts by Pennsylvania's state government in closing gender, racial, and other wage gaps? | ||
| I am running for my second term and we passed many bills that help kids, parents, families, seniors, and veterans. There is still work to be done, but we have a divided government. The Democratic majority in the House of Representatives passed 399 bills in the last session. Minimum Wage, Cost of Living Adjustments for Seniors, Mental Heatlh, veterans, equality bills, housing, education, pre k, higher ed, women's right to choose, protecting doctors and out of state women, black maternal health, the crown act, teacher pipeline, animal welfare bills, right to organize bills and safety on the job, clean air and water, corporate tax reduction, and the list goes on that help people, municipalities and more, but they die in the Senate who only passed 99 bills. We will keep trying, we need to invest in people in this commonwealth, we need to invest in infrastructure, housing and affordability. |
